Permission To Narrate

– Edward Said

The late Palestinian scholar, Edward Said, remarked that Palestinians had been denied permission to narrate their history and speak of the day-to-day experiences of life in the margins. Here, we reclaim that permission to narrate our own stories.

Palestinians sue Trump adviser, Netanyahu for terrorism

A group of US citizens and Palestinian nationals is suing Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and key members of US President Donald Trump’s administration for perpetrating and enabling war crimes. Their lawsuit, filed in federal court in Washington, DC, on Wednesday, alleges a money laundering scheme that involves the US defendants raising charitable donations to send to Israeli government leaders.

Trump policies in Israel will harm Palestinians, and hopes for peace

The Trump administration is setting the stage for provocative moves that strengthen the agenda of the far right in Israel. Emboldened by the new administration’s proposal to move the US embassy to Jerusalem and the appointment of settlement funder David Friedman as the new US ambassador, the Israeli government accelerated its settlement expansion with announcements this week of new construction and deregulation in areas of the West Bank and East Jerusalem. These alarming moves are indications of the Trump administration completely aligning US policy with endorsement of Israel’s policies of occupation, displacement, and apartheid.

The Paris peace conference was beyond useless – everyone knows a two-state solution in Israel and Palestine is impossible now

Anyone who’s visited the West Bank these past few years, looked at the Jewish colonies built on stolen Arab land, witnessed the occupation and the filth of Gaza and observed its brutal Hamas militia leaders – and realised that Netanyahu will soon be the most left-wing member of his increasingly racist government – knows very well that the ‘two-state solution’ vanished long ago.

Don’t Mess with Jerusalem

In just a matter of days, President-elect Donald Trump will have to decide on whether or not to make good on his promise to move the US embassy in Israel from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem. As we approach Inauguration Day, liberal and conservative commentators, alike, have offered a number of ideas as to how he can proceed. Ranging from ‘too cute by half’ to just plain dumb, they should all be rejected.
