“Prisoners of History: The Story of Dalia, A Palestinian”

Author Charles Sutherland discusses the issues shaping his new book, “Prisoners of History: Dalia, a Palestinian”, which is a non-fiction novel of contemporary events. It is about a girl, one of over 1,000,000 Palestinian children trapped as prisoners in the military Occupied Territories of Gaza and the West Bank, and her struggle for food, electricity, education… and freedom. The short fact-based narrative is based on official Israeli policies, secret police tactics, real-life events, and authentic episodes experienced by actual people.

Women and girls bear brunt of Israel’s crimes in Jordan Valley

This short documentary by the Palestinian human rights group Al-Haq focuses on the life of a family in al-Hadidiya, a Bedouin community in the northern Jordan Valley. Titled Sumoud – Arabic for steadfastness – it is named after the youngest daughter of the Bisharat family, which has resided in the same occupied West Bank community for generations.

Jerusalem: Communities Leading Change

Fayrouz Sharqawi,  Advocacy Director at Grassroots International, discusses the recent movement for Al Aqsa and the necessity of organizations like Grassroots Jerusalem to build a cohesive political platform through which Jerusalemites can voice their demands and bring attention to the indigenous and independent Palestinian economy outside of the international aid and NGO system.

Short Films from The Freedom Theatre: Stories of Life and Resistance Under Occupation

A screening of three short films from The Freedom Theater is presented by Felice Gelman and followed by the Skyped in presence of Mohamed Haj Ibrahim. Journey of a Freedom Fighter is the story of one armed fighter who chose resistance through art. Maybe presents a young woman film student who fights for her right to pursue her dream and finds her inspiration in another who breaks with convention in a different field. The Racer tells the story of a Palestinian stock car racer who wins against the odds of occupation.
