2019 HSML – “Popular Resistance: Reclaiming the Narrative and Recreating the Self”

Dr. Ramzy Baroud’s delivery of the 2019 Hisham Sharabi Memorial Lecture addresses the necessity of re-articulating the Palestinian narrative, based on the aspirations of the Palestinian people. He reminds us that they are the protagonists of the Palestinian story, the victims of oppression and the main channel of resistance, starting with the creation of Israel on the ruins of Palestinian towns and villages in 1948.

2019 Summer Film Series: “Personal Affairs” by Maha Haj

Maha Haj’s first feature film revolves around the dynamics characterizing a family from her hometown of Nazareth, where only the grumpy, middle-aged parents remain. One of their adult sons lives in Sweden, working as a photographer; their other son and daughter live in the West Bank in Ramallah, where the daughter’s mechanic husband  is cast in a U.S. film after the director passes through his shop.

2018 Palestine Center Annual Conference: Panel 1

Education in Palestine

Dr. Abuhiljeh, president of Birzeit University, shares his insights on overcoming the many challenges posed to Palestinian higher education and the lead that Birzeit University has taken in establishing the Right to Education campaign, which has spread to other Palestinian universities. This event was cosponsored by the Holy Land Christian Ecumenical Foundation (HCEF) and the Institute for Palestine Studies (IPS).

Discrimination, Police Brutality, and Racism: The Struggle of Arab Palestinians in Israel

Jafar Farah and Nabila Espanioly, co-founders of the Mossawa Center discuss the advocacy work and programs of the center. Their presentation highlights how Al Mossawwa Center develops programs to promote a democratic society, and acts against all forms of discrimination based on race, nationalism, religious affiliation, social status, gender, and disabilities.
