2020 Hisham Sharabi Memorial Lecture – “From the Oslo Accords to BDS: Topography of Palestine’s Activism in the US”

In an online virtual delivery of the Hisham Sharabi Memorial Lecture, Dr. Hatem Bazian will chart the shift in American public opinion around Palestine. This shift is the result of an accumulative process that took shape during the 1980s and early 90s, and finds context in several successful national and transnational movements.

2019 HSML – “Popular Resistance: Reclaiming the Narrative and Recreating the Self”

Dr. Ramzy Baroud’s delivery of the 2019 Hisham Sharabi Memorial Lecture addresses the necessity of re-articulating the Palestinian narrative, based on the aspirations of the Palestinian people. He reminds us that they are the protagonists of the Palestinian story, the victims of oppression and the main channel of resistance, starting with the creation of Israel on the ruins of Palestinian towns and villages in 1948.

“Boycott! The Academy and Justice for Palestine”

In this short essential book, Sunaina Maira situates the academic boycott (of the Palestinian led call for Boycott Sanctions Divestment) in the broader history of boycotts in the United States as well as in Palestine and shows how it has evolved into a transnational social movement that has spurred profound intellectual and political shifts.

The Palestine solidarity movement should focus on Palestine

Nada Elia holds no punches. A principled activist and an accomplished academic, she writes with honesty and vigour. As I embarked on a worldwide speaking tour, an article she wrote two years ago was present in my mind. Entitled, “No More Mr Nice Guy: White Male Israeli Activists Exploiting Palestine Solidarity”, the article details a degree of exploitation of Palestinian solidarity by ex-Zionist intellectuals, who seek high fees and special treatment when they travel the world talking about their moral awakening and ideological conversion. Indeed, some of these “nice guys” generate so much income that they turned solidarity into thriving careers.
