It’s Bananas
In a recent article, The Washington Post reported on the story of Jaseer Afyet, a Palestinian banana farmer in Al-Auja, which is a town north of Jericho in the West Bank.
Owing to the low elevation, heat, humidity, and high oxygen levels in the Jordan River Valley, Jericho’s bananas are prized for their sweetness and rich flavor and were popular in markets throughout the Middle East.
Cornered into a Cave: The Callousness of Israeli Occupation
30-year-old Ahmad Amarneh received a demolition notice from Israeli authorities. This is obviously nothing new for Palestinians living under Israeli military occupation. What is unique about this situation is that the Amarneh family lives in a cave. Yes, as absurd as it sounds, they literally live in a cave, and the Israelis want to demolish it.
Normalization at the Expense of Palestinians
On August 13, 2020, Israel and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) agreed to normalize relations between their two countries, with the assistance of the United States. In return, Israel agreed to temporarily “suspend” or “delay” its plans to annex the Palestinian West Bank. The only thing historic about this agreement is that it is now official. In reality, Israel and the UAE have been cooperating and normalizing relations under the table for many years.
Police Brutality: From Israel to the US
Parts of American cities are in chaos right now. As everyone knows, the current protests and turmoil in the US were triggered by the murder of an unarmed and restrained black man, George Floyd, at the hands of police officers in the city of Minneapolis.
Double Standards of the Dishonest Brokers
On May 28, China’s parliament passed a national security law for Hong Kong that China claims will confront “secession, subversion, terrorism, and foreign interference.” Shortly after China passed the law on Hong Kong, the US, UK, Canada, and Australia issued a joint statement condemning it. But where is their condemnation and “deep concern” when it comes to Israel’s oppression of Palestinians?
