Diabetes is Rising, the PDI is Responding: Be the Urgent Help We Need!

The ongoing genocide in Gaza has led to a marked surge in violence throughout Palestinian communities in the occupied West Bank, raising significant concerns about the escalating health crisis in Palestine. Socio-economic constraints, increased movement restrictions, attacks on healthcare infrastructure, and psychological stress arising from the Israeli occupation are obstructing access to healthcare in Palestine. Diabetes, a chronic non communicable disease that requires consistent medical management, is becoming increasingly prevalent in Palestine, further straining the already fragile healthcare system in the region. As one of the leading indirect causes of death within Palestinian communities, supporting efforts to address it is urgently needed.

Diabetes disproportionately affects Palestinians, with 18% diagnosed and the number nearing 30% when including pre-diabetes and undiagnosed cases, according to the Union of Palestinian Medical Relief Committee.

Amid these challenges, the Palestine Diabetes Institute (PDI) stands out as a symbol of hope. With branches in three major Palestinian cities in the occupied West Bank – Hebron, Nablus, and Al-Bireh, the PDI is strategically located to reach and serve a broad spectrum of the Palestinian population suffering from diabetes. The institute features specialized clinics dedicated to early detection and treatment of diabetes in both adults and children, along with extensive laboratory services, eye care, and nutritional support and services. As a leading force against diabetes, the PDI also provides comprehensive care for children, addressing conditions such as short stature, early puberty, and pituitary insufficiency.

Yet, despite its dedicated efforts, the PDI cannot tackle this formidable challenge alone. Collaboration and community engagement is essential for enhancing the Institute’s impact and ensuring a sustainable fight against diabetes among the occupied population.

Our appeal to you today is simple, yet profound. Your donation, no matter its size, can directly enhance the lives of countless Palestinians, allowing them to combat, manage, and even overcome diabetes. By supporting the PDI, you’ll not only be contributing to the immediate relief of many but also playing a vital role in raising awareness and educating communities with a lack of access to healthcare about diabetes.

Remember, all donations to The Jerusalem Fund are fully tax-deductible to the extent allowed by the law. And we ensure that 100% of your generous contributions directly benefit the PDI or any other program of your choosing.

We sincerely thank each and every one of our donors. Your unwavering support, big or small, continues to reinforce the health and steadfastness of Palestinians. Let us come together, yet again, to champion the cause of health, hope, and dignity.

Thank you for helping us make a difference. Every donation counts in this fight to grant further healthcare access to occupied communities to combat diabetes.

In Solidarity,
