Palestine Happy Child Center – Ramallah, West Bank

Project Title: Child Enrichment Project

The Palestine Happy Child Center was established in 1994 as a grassroots non-governmental organization. The mission of the Center is to promote and further the welfare and well-being of young children in Palestine “through a holistic approach to child development.”

Recognizing the abnormal situation that Palestinian children find themselves in, the Center endeavors to provide normalcy for children through “unconditional support” regardless of “political and socioeconomic conditions.”

As disabled Palestinian children suffer more than the majority of children from the effects of a brutal Israeli occupation because they are burdened by their “special needs,” the Center disseminates relevant information to the community at large conveying the essential humanity of all people regardless of their particular disability.

In 2002, The Jerusalem Fund granted the Palestine Happy Child Center an award to support its efforts at creating an Enrichment Center for “disabled and traumatized” children.

The Enrichment Center will meet the educational needs of disabled children, promote and enhance the rights of children, raise awareness in society of the plight of disabled children, develop self-confidence and create “well-adjusted” individuals.
